Yooka-Laylee is a really interesting game in a lot of ways, but most interesting to me is its music (surprise, surprise). Since the game invites so many comparisons to Banjo-Kazooie I couldn’t resist seeing how the soundtracks stacked up against each other, and I was surprised to find A LOT in common on a technical level between the two scores. Enjoy my breakdown of what gives both of these games their distinct, goofy sound! Learning theory is incredibly helpful, but can it also hurt? Can studying the rules make it harder to find new, exciting things? Well, no, but it’s not unreasonable to think that it would. Many self-taught musicians worry that, if they get too much of an academic background, it’ll mess with their individual style, but in my experience that’s just not true. Learning theory is the best thing you can do as a songwriter, and this week I’d like to get all philosophical for a bit and talk about why! There’s a hidden ‘Asteroids’ style game in Pro Tools. This has been in the software since at least version 12.8 and, despite a couple of mentions in online forums, seems to have otherwise gone largely unnoticed by the majority of users. In this video I demonstrate how to access and play this hidden game in Pro Tools Ultimate.
I love that classic 70s style phasing effect and the easiest way to get it is revealed in this video.
I had to make a Migos vibe with as many hits as they’ve been putting out lately! I’d definitely recommend checking out some of the producers who are behind a lot of their tracks like Nard & B who produced T-SHIRT, Murda Beatz who produced GET RIGHT WITCHA, Dun Deal who produced HANNAH MONTANA amongst many others. Forgot to A/B at the end! the tone of the original was less ‘rich’ and glossy.. so a bit of EQ could help.. will have a think about that!
