In this video it’s obvious the the standard preset is bad. The attack ratio needs to be turned all the way up to stop that popping in the vocals plus it would help if the singer could actually sing lol

I found this video to be helpful. Regardless of what anyone thinks of the vocals, the method is showing how to take a vocal that has a wide range of peaks, and do what some people might call “normalizing”. At the end of the video, we can see (as well as hear) that the range of output is much tighter than it is without compression. Thanx for sharing!

This “thing” is, to me, the best example of a completely unprofessional all-in-one-learn-fast-everything’s-easy american crap.
I’ve watch dozens of the PT video tutorials from this guy.
He is absolutely no professional, he doesn’t know shit about what he’s talking about…and the examples tracks he uses speak for him: total crap.
Go learn a job and let this one be done by real professionals.
He’s jokes are not even funny. Let it go.

dbRareFaction says:

You need to treat the vocals with a filter before the compressor so that the low freqs don’t hit the comp to hard. Cut the necessary low freqs, maybe some mud at 350Hz -3db wide Q THEN compress. Boost certain frequencies after the compressor ONLY if needed.

dbRareFaction says:

Don’t know what kind of artists you are working with. Amateur vocalist sound bad with or without music. Music just covers it up a bit but a trained ear can zone in on vocals that suck with or without music.
